In 2001 Kristen and her deaf Boxer, Bailey, moved out of her parents house. Convinced that Bailey needed a friend - Kristen adopted a second dog named Lady from a local rescue. Feeling very connected to the rescue, and wanting to give her time to help other dogs find their furever homes, Kristen began walking dogs and helping out at events. Falling in love with a sweet pittie named Kobe, and convincing herself that her home had room for one more pooch, Kristen adopted her third dog.
After her son was born in February 2002 - Kristen started Fur Babies Rescue. Focusing on primarily special needs cases (deaf, blind) and harder to place breeds (like her beloved Kobe the pittie) - Fur Babies found a lot of help and support from the local community. Fur Babies quickly blossomed into a tight knit community of people willing to open their homes to foster the rescues and buy them time to find their furever homes. To date Fur Babies has rescued over 500 animals in Long Island. Amazing!
